Today is the first day of June series and introduction of Junior Nifty and CNX IT into the futures and options market. The roll overs from the May series are very good and the June series has the all time high open interest at the start of the series. Yesterday’s close is the all time high close for the spot Nifty. The global markets are trading marginally in the positive. Our markets also should open in the positive but technically many of the Nifty stocks are not showing great strength and can lose momentum in the later half to pull the indices down. Caution is advised at higher levels on an intraday basis. The tech stocks and the CNX IT is crucially poised and can fall further if it closes below 5190, else a bounce back. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4315-4334-4353 and should take support at 4271-4256-4240.

Yesterday the markets closed above the level of 4270 for which we were looking for. Now the markets appear bullish and can go further up. Keep a stop loss of 4240 for your long positions now. Interest is coming back into the capital goods segment. The US markets closed flat with a positive bias. The cause of concern currently is the Chinese markets as they are trading 6% lower today ad the other asian markets are also down more than a percent down. It goes without saying that we will open in the negative. I feel the markets will bounce back from the lows. Technically the markets are not weak at all right now. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4300-4320-4340 and should take support at 4275-4255-4240.

Yesterday the markets lost momentum in the last 30 minutes and came down to close flat. Even though it remained above the 4270 level throughout the day it failed to close above that level. Think to go long in Nifty only if it closes above 4270 the next time. For today, there is no cue available from the global markets as the US and UK markets were closed yesterday on account of memorial day. The Asian markets have a mixed trend today. There is a good possibility that we may open in the positive today. Again, the point to check is, whether it manages to close above 4270. On Friday, the markets opened weak and reversed to close with substantial gains. It displayed good amount of strength, BUT do not go and buy just yet. Markets are bullish only if spot Nifty closes above 4270. The trading range for Nifty now is 4260-4140. A close below 4140 is extremely bearish for the markets. It is advisable to stay out of the markets today and watch the proceedings. The US markets closed in positive on Friday and the Asian markets are expected to open strong on Monday. This implies that our markets will open in the positive. I expect the indices to slowly lose momentum and close in the negative. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4270-4291-4315 and should take support at 4218-4202-4182.

The markets have reached my expected levels and will be over stretching if trades above 4250. If Nifty starts trading above 4250 use the levels to go short. The banking stocks are showing signs of tiredness and the Bank Nifty has also reached my target of 6250. Now, above 6300 is the area to go short. Real estate and construction stocks are still looking strong and can go up further. The cement stocks are gaining momentum and are ready for another round of upmove. ACC, Grasim, JP Associates and Ultratech cement are looking good. For today, I do not see a big move. The indices should trade and close mildly in positive or negative. The Nifty should face resistance at 4247-4275 and should take support at 4190-4174-4157.

As expected the markets gained momentum in the afternoon session yesterday. Banking and infrastructure stocks are looking extremely bullish. I would still advise to be cautious at these. Nifty level of 4200 was the level I was looking for. If it stretches further it can go up till 4250 and if there is still some steam left after that it can go up till 4315. I think 4250 are the levels to cover long positions and go short in Nifty futures. FII figures are still not very convincing to suggest more up side in this market. For today, the Nifty should face resistance at 4202-4218-4238 and should take support at 4152-4137-4103.

The markets are all set to go up this week. Please do not go and buy for long term just yet. This might be the last and final up move before it starts correcting again. Yesterday is was interesting to see that the markets crashed in the second half. Today also the markets will open in the negative, but I have a strong feeling that it will bounce back in the second half. Nifty level of 4028 is very crucial. If it manages to close below this level for 2 consecutive days then expect 3900 in the nifty charts in the short term. If it holds then expect some buying in the coming week. Most of the Nifty stocks are showing bearish divergence at the bottom. If those stocks hold up to close in positive today then expect buying in the next week.
For today, Nifty should take support at 4046-4028-4007 and should face resistance at 4076-4107-4141.

As expected, yesterday the indices opened in the negative and climbed up to close in positive. Even though the pull back seemed significant, look at the FII figures and advance decline ratio. The undertone in the market is still weak. If there is a pull back today or on Friday, use it to exit long positions and if the markets over stretches take it as an opportunity to short sell. The pull back rally can be on account of short covering. The Nifty futures premium of 13 points is not at all comforting. The fed meet yesterday left the rates unchanged as expected and are not expected to touch it till the end of the year. Even though I have a few buy calls, buy them only if you have a lion’s heart else, stay out. For today, the nifty is expected to open in the positive. I am curious to check the close. Bank stocks might lead the rally and the tech stocks are expected to pull it down. Nifty should face resistance at 4105-4136-4163 and should take support at 4052-4037-4017.

The global markets were strong for the last 2-3 days and are now cautious ahead of Fed reserves decision on interest rate hike even though most of the analysts feel that the rate will be left unchanged. For today, the indices might open in the negative and crawl back to close in the positive. There is a big up move waiting to happen either on Thursday or Friday. The Nifty should take support at 4056-4043-4017 and should find resistance at 4100-4118-4148.

Yesterday the markets closing in the negative was not a very comfortable for me. From now on every rise is an opportunity to sell. Today the markets might bounce back, but the time is not ripe to buy yet. The new high seems to be a rare possibility now. I suggest to exit long positions at all higher levels. The results reason is close to its end and there is no major news coming up in the near future. The bearish engulfing pattern made on Friday was confirmed by the negative close on Monday which indicates weakness at these levels. I will not be surprised if the Nifty tests 3900 levels in this month. The pull back rally in cement stock seems to be ending and the charts are looking down again. 30-Nov-06 :: Close: Sensex choppy on FNO as is always !

Cautious FNO settlement day; Good economic figures helped sentiment as did global cuesMarket remained ranged through out the day because of FNO settlement day except in the last hour of the day when short covering intensified and helped sensex to close handsomely. Positive Global cues helped the sensex for a good start but inflation concerns and selling in Energy stocks because of cut in Petrol and Diesel prices made the market choppy. ONGC and Reliance were weak all day long. The high volumes during the final hour of trade was triggered by the reports of strong performance of the Indian economy during the second quarter of this fiscal. As reported by the Central Statistical Organisation (CSO), India's GDP growth during the quarter ended September 2006 was around 9.2% which shows that economy continues to do well and that is reflected in the figures.

28-Nov-06 :: Close: Sensex finally gives in to global cues ! Pulls back!

US markets derailed the markets, European market were in red
Market opened today deep in the red given the fact that the US markets derailed on a depressing note overnight, and the Asian markets were down as well and stayed that way right till the end of the trading session. Markets weakened further during the final hour of trade as selling pressure intensified amongst index heavyweights However, there were irregular attempts of profit booking at the lower end to break the rally but none were strong enough to cause any major dent to the selling pressure. Strength was seen in heavyweights across very few sectors like Auto, Pharma and Banks. Weakness was seen in key stocks from the software, telecom and energy. Both Asian markets and European markets ended in red.
Sensex closed down by 172 points at 13601.95. Weighing on the Sensex were losses in RCVL (417.6,-3 percent), Satyam (450.2,-3 percent), Rel Energy (530.55,-3 percent), Infosys (2166.75,-3 percent) and NTPC (149.85,-3 percent). Losses are restricted by gains in SBI (1293.45,+1 percent), Hero Honda (742.05,+1 percent), Grasim (2715.3,+1 percent), Maruti (913.8,+0 percent) and Guj Ambuja (143.2,+0 percent).Its the dollar which is a problem.. added to high valued optimism. Performance good
Telecom sector was deep in red. Bharti was down. Bharti Enterprises will be the Wal-Mart franchisee and manage the front-end, while the US retailing giant will manage technology and franchising. Interesting to note that Bharti Airtel the listed subsidiary and has no benefits coming from the same except that its services could be sold from the stores as and when they come in. Bharti stock has been bid up significantly on the back of such news of this speculation. Bharti enterprises own many companies and in different areas of operation: To this will be added the Walmart JV. Investors of Bharti Airtel have no reason to be excited. This had the stock a bit down. Rel Comm also took a big knock.
Pharma stocks witnessed a mixed range. As per a leading business news paper reported, Biocon has chalked out plans to invest around US$ 10 m in the next 12 months for the purpose of expanding its facilities and increasing the range of its product offerings. Besides this, the company has envisaged launching its rheumatoid arthritis drug named P1H in India in the next three years. This drug is scheduled to enter Phase III clinical trials in 18 months and will be a branded drug in the event that it gets commercialised. The company is also looking to sell the drug in the international markets after it has been launched in the domestic market. This move is in line with the company's strategy to become a discovery-led company and reduce its dependence on statins for long term. The stock is traded 1% higher.

Going AHEAD

Going ahead, the worry on the global equities is the US economy. The data coming from there is not encouraging and there is a chance that the interest rates may be cut earlier than usual. This is bad news. US is the engine for the world economy. On the other hand Indian stocks are pricing in excessive optimism of flawless execution. Siemens at 45 times FY 07 earnings is certainly grossly expensive specially in a scenario where price pressures remain and also the fact that the company will hive off its subsidiaries to its parent thus taking away big potential growth areas. Bharti is valued at 22 times FY08 earnings... the list goes on and on. Moral of the above is. That the large caps have some correction to go through and price in some element of negative surprise. Everyone seems to be expecting a bounce.. Will it this time.? Dont be surprised if it does and dont be surprised if it does not. Be ready for both. Thats the right way !

Technically Speaking: Overall market was in red and ended the same. Volumes were at 4049 cr. The breadth has been in favor of Decliners as they were at 1465 while Advances at 1072. The Resistance was at 13662-13733 while Support at 13549 -13506 levels.

Yet another week of superlative gains for the market though there were worries of a correction. Sensex finally closed up 1.27% for the week with its highest ever closing. This week again saw FII interest continuing and there were more happy investors as the mid caps finally started moving filling in the valuation discrepancies with the large caps.
However this week was a mixed week with selective gains even amongst the large caps. The week saw a major dip on the back of selloff in power stocks as the US Congressional elections threw up results. The Democrats took control of both the houses. The Upper and the lower houses. This is expected to positive for alternative energy sources and negative for the pharma stocks and Power stocks. Democrats have been indicated to be opposed to the Indo-US Nuclear deal. The power stocks came in for some selling but were back up again on hopes and reports that the deal will go through. Suzlon was up nevertheless with a big bang. There was the sugar seesaw with a hope of exports being allowed and then the hopes being shattered for the stocks to crash down again. The EPFO (Employees provident Fund) decision was taken and they will not be allowed to invest into equities. At least not yet! Rs 170000 cr is to give 8.5% assured returns. A big problem but some positive for the private Banks. There is increased hope that the banks with retail borrowing will do well as the borrowing limits from EPFO may be curtailed. Inflation came in lower and Industrial growth numbers reported on Friday were very encouraging. Gujarat Ambuja was a strong gainer and a sole one. This probably is on the merger with ACEL which lands up with an increased holding for Holcim. Also there are talks that some creeping acquisition is on with the Swiss parent wanting to increase stake. Interesting to note that the two wheeler sector came in for major pressure. Maruti was smashed in the last two days as Nissan dumped it for an association with Mahindra. Reliance came in for selling in the middle of the week. There were reports that Jain and Gujarati Investors were exiting given Reliance's retail venture was selling meat as well. Surprising but thats Indian Markets.
The gainers which helped the Sensex were Gujarat Ambuja +9%, Hll +7%, ICICI bank +7%, HDFC Bank, +4%, Cipla + 4%,
The big losers this week were Bajaj Auto - 8%, Maruti -7%. Hero Honda -4%, Grasim -3%.Many stars this week.. karuturi Said it with flowers..Softwares went soft except Infosys, security going tight
Of the stars this week was Karuturi almost 5 times as it hit circuits more times than that. This is a Bangalore based company into flower exports. It is growing through its plantations in Ethiopia. Performance for last quarter was fantastic helped by Gherkins and also sapplings business. Japan is a new area for exports and to add to that there are some tie ups for flowers in India as well. All in all a good story waiting to be discovered. We expect the Funds to start buying as the market cap reaches certain minimum levels. We are not far from that yet.
It was a week for the mid cap technology stocks. Mphasis BFL was up 9%. Sasken was up 5%. and so were others. Infosys ADS offering is on cards and the stock was strong. This will increase the free float of Infosys and hence open the doors for the stock to be a part of the Nasdaq 100. TCS, Satyam and Wipro were weak and not surprisingly so. The dollar was weak and the rupee only got stronger. This is a pending worry for the software sector in an otherwise booming environment.

Another story emerging is security. Airports across the country went on a red alert post some security threat this week. We believe that this is going to be a way of life really. Papers carry sensational crimes and investment in security will be a theme to play that. Zicom is a play on that. We are positive here. Valuations may be a bit expensive but good things in life dont come cheap. Expect a detailed note on this company in days to come.
Next week is again a week with not much of negatives. The momentum is on and markets are on a high. The Nuke deal could be passed next week and that may have its impact on the markets. The ICC rights bidding is what could drive Zee up or down and there is the restructuring approval. The news of the Rs 1 lac car from Tata Motors will have some impact. Markets TODAY

The session today was no different from past few sessions, as stock specific action unfolded today as well. Both the primary indices were green for almost the entire session. The action was characterised by bouts of volatility, with market mood shaper ONGC showing the way ahead. Both the benchmark indices made new intra-day and all-time highs. The Sensex went to a high of 13,138 and closed at 13,091, up 58 points. The Nifty went to a high of 3,806, and settled at 3,791, up 24 points. However, the market breadth on the BSE was marginally adverse, with the declines edging past the advances by a 1.1:1 ratio. Among the sectoral indices, Oil&Gas powered further, up 1.9%, followed by PSU and Consumer Durables. Others were relatively lukewarm. Among the Sensex stocks, ONGC gained the most, up 4.4%, followed by Maruti, up 2%. On the other hand, Satyam lost 1.8%
